Missouri Pre-License Program
Missouri requires that new licensee applicants complete two courses prior to obtaining a license. These are:
48 Hour Pre-Exam Class
24 Hour Pre-License Class (also called the Practice Course)
Additional Requirements
Must be 18 years of age
Pass the real estate state and national exams
Get fingerprinted

Pass a criminal background check

You do not need a High School Diploma or equivalent degree
You do not need to be a resident of the United States

48-Hour Pre-Exam Course
Required prior to taking the exams
Covers everything necessary to pass the exams

** NOTE ** You will have six (6) months from the completion date of this course to apply for your real estate license. If you are late by even one day you will need to repeat each step again. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!
Step 2
Pass the State & National Exams
National Exam
100 multiple choice questions
70% (70 correct answers) required to pass the exam
State Exam
40 multiple choice questions
75% (30 correct answers) required to pass the exam
Four (4) hours given for both exams which are combined into a single exam.

Step 4
Fingerprinting
The States of Missouri and Kansas will each require you to be fingerprinted for a background check prior to accepting an application for license.
Step 5
Choose a Brokerage
Prior to submitting your application for license you must choose a brokerage
The broker must sign your application agreeing to supervise your real estate activities
Step 6
Apply for License
Your brokerage will offer to send your application to the Missouri or Kansas Real Estate Commission (MREC / KREC)
You may also drive your own application to Jefferson City, MO or Topeka, KS depending upon the state in which you’re applying for a license
How long are the required classes to obtain my real estate license?
Pre-Exam Day Classes take six (6) days, Monday - Saturday.
Pre-Exam Evening Classes take eight (8) evenings, Monday - Thursday, and two (2) Saturdays.
Pre-License (Practice Course) Day Classes take three (3) days, Monday - Wednesday.
Pre-License (Practice Course) Evening Classes take five (5) days, Monday - Thursday and one (1) Saturday.
